6 Reasons Why A Campervan in Portugal is the Best Office You Will Ever Have

Never has it been more possible to work anywhere in the world. The modern workplace is calling and millennials are swapping their office chairs for hammocks and they have never been happier. Recently I had the chance to experience life as a Digital Nomad from a camper van travelling the coast of Portugal. I took Skype calls on the edge of cliffs outlooking the Atlantic Ocean, I answered client emails from the passenger seat as we passed horse and carts on the road and I was editing client blog posts in my camper chair with the wind in my hair. It was exhilarating.

Being a digital nomad is no longer restricted to an office, coworking space or cafe in a different location to home. With wifi and long lasting power source capabilities you can literally work anywhere. There certainly are some challenges to overcome but where there is a will, there is a way and here are 6 reasons why a campervan in Portugal is the best office you will ever have.

1. Different Day, Different Outlook

Each and every day you can choose where you work from. If you aren’t feeling the environment you’re in conducive to high productivity, up and go. It’s as simple as that. There are no restrictions to where you can set up. Try doing that when you work from a regular office.

2. Minimal Baggage

When you don’t have clutter your mind can get to work. Life in a campervan (whether it’s semi-permanent or just a holiday) likely means you only have your important belongings with you. With minimal baggage there are minimal distractions and you can focus on what you have to do.

3. Happiness Makes for Better Work

When you’re gallivanting along the beautiful western coastline of Portugal you will be in touch with your inner explorer. You’ll feel free. You will have breakfast on the beach after a stroll in the cool sand before you have to open your emails and begin the day. This will centre you and make you tap into a new level of happiness. When you’re happy everything is effected and this includes the quality of your work.

4. Creative Sparks Ignite

Just try and not be inspired, motivated and captivated by the landscape. Your creativity won’t be able to be contained. Lots of digital nomads are in creative industries and being on the road beach hopping the countryside your creative and innovative juices will be gushing.

5. Peace and Quiet

Whether you’re a creative designer or a virtual assistant running through spreadsheets, you’ll need a bit of peace and quiet every now and then. When you’re the only one on the beach with the soothing white noise of the waves and birds you will be at total zen and at one with your work. The fresh air and soothing breeze will provide the perfect environment to concentrate on the task at hand.

6. More Play, Less Work

You will be so eager to explore, swim, sunbake and whatever else takes your fancy that there will be no procrastinating. Most of a normal work day in the cubicle jungle is taken up by procrastination, slow decision making and unnecessary tea breaks. Imagine having the motivation to get stuck into your work so you can wrap up for the day.

My recent experience was incredible and it really proved there are no barriers to where you work now. If you’re looking for excuses to not do this, I’m sure you could find enough to turn you away. But if you are really looking for a way to shake up your current work environment and find yourself along the way, hiring a campervan and working on the road will be the best office you’ll ever experience. I hired a campervan through Westcoast Campers and the van came with wifi, power for use at campsites, all kitchen gear and everything else we needed to travel, explore, work and have fun. I strongly recommend this experience to anyone, I guarantee it won’t be the last time you work from a campervan.
